Participatory Learning
Montessori education aims to unleash the intellectual and creative potential within each child, so that they learn at their own pace and under their own motivation. One of the aims of Montessori education is give the child the big picture; the forest as well as the trees. The disciplines of math, geometry, science, language, music, art, geography, and biology are all intimately interwoven. This gives the child a sense of perspective, a way to see how all the disparate parts of his education make up a larger whole.
We provide them with the environment and the skills they need to follow their interests in depth with purposeful, creative, and constant activity. Younger children focus on building basic skills, especially in reading, writing and math. As they gain fluency in these skills, and demonstrate more responsibility and good work habits, they are gradually given more freedom to choose work from various options. We guide the children towards consistently setting and meeting goals, making wise choices, engaging in healthy social interactions and group problem solving. As a result, they will be increasingly free to discover and reach their full potential.
Everyone is a Teacher and Everyone is a Learner
Because everyone has their own history and personal perspective,
everyone can learn from another person. We try our best to create an
environment in which every person's perspective is valued. Every
perspective, even when we disagree with it, can help illumine the
characteristics of our own perspective. Often, it's not until our
perspectives are contrasted with other perspectives do we understand our
own perspectives.
The modern work place is frequently one where groups are collaborating internationally and with multiple levels of an organization. Traditional education is well suited for the traditional hierarchical roles of bosses and employees, but not well suited for collaboration. We believe that our students are likely to work in multinational and multicultural work places and thus need a flexible and respectful attitude towards the perspectives of others.
